Giovanni Barbato holds a Master’s Degree in Administration and Public Policy from the University of Milan, where he also obtained his Ph.D. in Economic Sociology and Labour Studies in 2019. His Ph.D. dissertation focussed on higher education systems’ diversity and on higher education institutions’ strategic positioning.
Since the early days of his academic career, Giovanni has been a member of several national and international research projects focussing on higher education institutions’ performance evaluation as well as on shifts in the governance of higher education institutions and systems. Giovanni is currently a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Milan, where he also teaches Business Administration. His research interests are concentrated on performance measurement as well as strategic planning processes in public sector organizations, with a focus on higher education institutions.
Giovanni published several articles in a number of national and international journals, such as Studies in Higher Education; Higher Education, International Journal of Public Sector Management, International Journal of Public Administration and Quality in Higher Education.
